Introduction to TDK AXO series digital MEMS accelerometers

TDK Corporation has launched two new products, AXO301 and AXO305, to expand the Tronics AXO300 accelerometer product lineup. After successfully launching the ± 14 g AXO315 accelerometer suitable for high-performance navigation and dynamic system positioning applications in 2020, Tronics has expanded its AXO300 accelerometer product lineup with the AXO301 and AXO305. AXO301 is a low-noise, high-resolution ± 1g accelerometer, which is very suitable for high-precision acceleration/deceleration measurement in railway applications and tilt control in industrial applications; The AXO305 is a ± 5 g accelerometer specifically designed for navigation, positioning, and motion control of manned/unmanned systems on land and in the ocean. The AXO300 series accelerometer adopts an innovative closed-loop structure design, which ensures high linearity and stability even under strong vibration conditions. It has excellent one-year compound bias repeatability (1mg) and one-year compound scale factor repeatability (600ppm).

AXO301 is a low-noise, high-resolution, closed-loop digital MEMS accelerometer with an input range of ± 1 g. It provides customers with a high-performance, low SWaP (size, weight, and power), and cost-effective alternative solution for force balance inclinometers and servo accelerometers. It has an ultra-low noise density of 8 μ g/√ Hz, excellent 50 μ g resolution, and can measure tilt angles with high precision. AXO301 meets the EN61373 railway application vibration and impact standards and is designed specifically for odometer assistance in train positioning systems, high-end industrial tilt and inclination measurement systems, and engineering machinery motion control applications.

AXO305: High performance accelerometer suitable for land, ocean, and robot applications

The input measurement range of AXO305 is ± 5 g, and its anti vibration performance is as high as 20 μ g/g2, making it very suitable for navigation, positioning, and motion control applications in land, railway, and marine transportation systems and vehicles.

Its bias stability is 4 μ g, and the bias error within the temperature range is ± 0.5 mg. Therefore, when integrated into an inertial navigation system (INS), it can provide accurate GNSS assisted navigation performance for both manned and unmanned ground vehicles and trains. AXO305 is highly suitable for motion reference units (MRUs) for ship motion control and dynamic positioning, inertial measurement units (IMUs) for land navigation, underwater navigation for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) and remotely operated unmanned vehicles (ROVs), platform and crane stability, as well as precision robotics applications.

Miniature and durable accelerometers suitable for system applications under vibration conditions

The Tronics AXO300 series products adopt a closed-loop structure design, with high resolution and excellent anti vibration performance. This series of accelerometers and inclinometers use miniature sealed J-lead ceramic packaging, which has a long working and storage life and ensures high compliance with strict thermal cycling requirements for critical applications. They are embedded with fully hard coded electronic devices with a 24 bit digital SPI interface, which can be quickly integrated into independent sensor modules INS、IMU, And in the Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS). The built-in self-test function can preliminarily verify the integrity of the sensor and continue to perform functional testing during operation.

A high-performance accelerometer with low SWaP and high cost-effectiveness

The Tronics AXO315, AXO305, and AXO301 accelerometers share a common sensor structure, as well as features such as miniature packaging and low power consumption, providing a digital, low-cost, and low SWaP alternative solution that is highly suitable for replacing bulky, expensive, and high-power analog solutions such as quartz accelerometers.

The AXO300 accelerometer complements Tronics' high-performance GYPRO well? Digital gyroscope product line. They have the same SMD J lead ceramic package (12 x 12 x 5 mm) and digital interface, making them easy to assemble onto printed circuit boards, with low integration costs and high reliability, even in temperature changing conditions.

AXO315 started mass production in 2020; AXO301 and AXO305 can now obtain samples and conduct customer evaluations directly at Tronics or through specialized agents. You can also use Arduino based evaluation kits to quickly evaluate sensors. This kit has multiple built-in testing functions, such as outputting readings and recording, recalibration, and digital self-test.
