A high-tech factory specializing in flow meters
The company's instrument science and technology park covers an area of 100,000 square meters
DRV8251ADDAR (TI DRV8251A Brushed DC Motor H-Bridge Driver IC)
Suffix DDA: 8-pin PowerPAD HSOP package; R = tape & reel packaging; Version A: integrated current mirror, no high-power sense resistor required (this is the key difference from DRV8251 non-A version).
## Overview
TI integrated single N-channel H-bridge brushed DC motor driver IC. It integrates a charge pump and current mirror sensing circuit, with built-in current limiting and multi-level protection.
**Key highlight: integrated current sensing eliminates external power sense resistor, simplifies PCB design and reduces BOM cost.** The motor forward/reverse rotation, speed regulation and stall detection can be directly controlled via MCU GPIO/PWM signals.
## Key Specifications
1. Topology: Single H-bridge (4 integrated NMOS transistors)
2. Power Supply VM: 4.5V ~ 48V, absolute maximum voltage rating 50V
3. Current: Peak current 4.1A
4. MOS On-resistance: Typical 450mΩ for combined HS+LS
5. Control Logic: Dual logic pins IN1/IN2 for PWM speed control, compatible with 1.8V / 3.3V / 5V MCU logic levels
6. PWM Frequency Range: 0~200kHz
7. Current Sensing: Integrated current mirror with IPROPI output; no external power sense resistor needed. VREF pin sets the current limit threshold.
8. Temperature Range: -40℃ ~ +150℃ (Junction Temperature TJ)
9. Package: HSOP8 (DDA with PowerPAD thermal pad, 4.9mm ×6.0mm), tape & reel
10. Protection Features: UVLO undervoltage lockout, latched OCP overcurrent protection, TSD thermal shutdown
11. Low Power: Sleep mode quiescent current <1μA
## Functions
1. Brushed DC Motor Drive: H-bridge output controls motor forward, reverse, brake and coast; PWM adjusts rotation speed.
2. Integrated Current Sensing & Current Limiting: IPROPI outputs a signal proportional to motor current. MCU reads this signal to implement **stall detection and load monitoring**. VREF sets maximum current limit to prevent damage to motor and power supply caused by inrush or stall current.
3. Solenoid and Relay Coil Drive: It can drive single-coil solenoids and electromagnetic actuators besides motors.
4. Charge Pump: Supports 100% duty-cycle continuous turn-on of high-side NMOS.
5. Low-power Sleep Mode: Enter sleep mode when both IN1 and IN2 are pulled low, drastically reducing quiescent current.
6. Comprehensive Fault Protection: Output automatically shuts down under undervoltage, overcurrent and overtemperature conditions to protect IC and downstream loads. Overcurrent protection is latched and requires reset for recovery.
## Applications
- Industrial Equipment: Small electric actuators, valves, solenoids, conveyors, miniature industrial pumps
- Robotics: Robot vacuum cleaners, small mobile robots, pan-tilt assemblies, small servo loads
- Office Equipment: Printers, scanners, automatic paper feeders
- Consumer Devices: Power tools, water pumps, fans, small electric lifting mechanisms
- Automotive Accessories: On-board small brushed motors, window / door lock auxiliary actuators (low-voltage brushed)
- Others: Vending machines, small transmission modules for medical devices
